The lab / equipment

We perform our research at the Institut Charles Gerhardt in Montpellier, which is fully equipped for the synthesis and characterization of molecular and (nano)materials systems. Moreover, we have direct access to the spectrometers of the « PAC Chimie Balard » (plateforme d’analyse et de caractérisation), including 300, 400, 600 MHz instruments for solid state NMR.

Equipment for molecular/materials synthesis and ball-milling

In order to perform the 17O (or 18O) enrichment reactions, we have equipped the lab with 6 ball-milling machines (4 vibratory mills, 1 planetary mill and 1 cryomill), and a wide range of milling jars and beads. These are used on a daily basis for performing the isotopic labeling on a variety of systems.

Equipment for high resolution solid-state NMR analyses

The 3 solid state NMR instruments of the Institut Charles Gerhardt all have NMR probes which tune to 17O. Moreover, for the MISOTOP project, we have acquired an additional solid state NMR probe for the 600 MHz instrument, which offers new possibilities for developing heteronuclear correlation experiments with 17O.
